The global financial crisis catalyzed a major re-evaluation of the relation: ship between society and the financial sector. Besides the immediate economi impacts from the crisis, it led to a breakdown of trust in institutions, includin financial institutions that have been slow to rebuild. Many within the financiaf sector, including those who have joined the Principles for Responsible lnvestmen ('PRJ') (United Nations Global Compact 2015), recognize the challenges that confront shared humanity especially around climare change and inequality and] are trying to find a solution by focusing on environmental, social and governance_ ('ESG') data. The rising share of asset managers and asset owners using ESG, in their investment decision-making has contributed to a growth in responsiblel investment. Beyond the societal demand for alternatives, prolonged quantitative easing, low or negative interest rates and the thirst for higher yields have floodedr investments into technology start-ups including Fintech companies to drive a new'. paradigm in financial services globally. With a greater faith in technology to dis- ,: rupt old ways of working, Fintech is seen as more capable ofdelivering customer- : centric solutions that democratize the incumbents' domination of how wealth is generated and ultimately invested.
ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh karakteristik Islamic corporate governance terhadap kinerja bank syariah di Indonesia dan Malaysia. Dengan menggunakan regresi data panel 28 bank syariah di Indonesia dan Malaysia periode 2013-2019, penelitian ini menemukan adanya pengaruh Islamic corporate governance (ICG) secara simultan terhadap kinerja bank syariah. Hasil estimasi dengan dan tanpa variabel kontrol menunjukkan hanya variabel tingkat pendidikan Dewan Pengawas Syariah (DPS) yang konsisten memiliki pengaruh negatif signifikan terhadap kinerja bank syariah. Dengan menambahkan variabel kontrol, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa variabel gender diversity dan frekuensi rapat DPS masing-masing berpengaruh positif dan negatif terhadap kinerja bank syariah. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan wawasan bagi regulator untuk dapat meningkatkan kinerja bank syariah melalui praktik ICG. ABSTRACTThis study aims to determine the impact of Islamic corporate governance characteristics on the performance of Islamic banks in Indonesia and Malaysia. By using panel data regression of 28 Islamic banks in Indonesia and Malaysia for the 2013-2019 period, this study found the simultaneous influence of Islamic corporate governance (ICG) characteristics on the performance of Islamic banks. The results with and without control variables show that only the Sharia Supervisory Board (SSB) education level consistently has a significant negative effect on the performance of Islamic banks. By adding the control variable, the results show that the gender diversity variable and the frequency of SSB meetings have a positive and negative effect on the performance of Islamic banks, respectively. PurposeThe purpose of this research is to propose a framework for research on Macaulay duration and establish future research directions.Design/methodology/approachThematic, bibliometric and content analyses have been used to review 168 research papers published between 1938 and 2019 taken from ISI Web of Science and Scopus contributed by leading authors, journals and regulatory bodies.FindingsIdentification and integration of themes of duration theory, duration model development and duration model implementation leading to unattended research gaps, and framework for research on Macaulay duration.Research limitations/implicationsThe study is based on an extensive review of the literature to extract important themes, research gaps and frameworks. It does not empirically investigate significance of Macaulay duration and various sectors.Practical implicationsThis research has several aspects that are helpful for practitioners. Macaulay duration has been the subject of empirical research only without any guiding framework. This research provides a platform to initiate profound researches in various areas of finance. Various proposed models are required to be tested under holistic approach in conventional and emerging fields, especially in Islamic settings.Originality/valueThis research highlights, research themes leading to framework, research gaps and factors that are crucial in developing, extending and testing duration models leading to enhancement of theoretical base of Macaulay duration.
This study aims giving an evaluation to develop the government and tourism agencies performance, which provides services, facilities, and infrastructures, whom Muslim-friendly, to attract the interest of Muslim tourist, that contributes to economic growth in Indonesia. It uses quantitative methods to examine the influence of macroeconomy and population in country of origin towards tourist arrivals to Indonesia. Regression panel data is used to examine the combination of time series from 2012-2017, and 5 countries from OIC, become cross-section data. It can be concluded that macroeconomy is not significant, while the population is significant towards Muslim tourist arrivals with 96% level influence. Therefore, the increasing of population from country of origin will rise tourist arrivals to Indonesia, which contributes to economic growth in Indonesia.
The objective of this research is to consolidate the literature published on the COVID-19 crisis impact on global stock markets to gain managerial implications from the crisis. It performs a thematic bibliometric review of the literature published in Scopus-ranked journals since the beginning of the pandemic using FCWI, Piecharts, and VOSViewer. It identifies the most under-researched regions and eight emerging sub-themes. The research finds that the benchmark theme is market behavior during the COVID-19 crisis, whereas an emerging benchmark theme is the markets after the COVID-19 crisis. The holistic view of the literature supporting eight sub-themes suggests that the government's role is of utmost importance to handle the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, which should be industry-specific. It identifies that all eight sub-themes of the research are the future research directions in all and specifically in the South American, African, South East Asian, and Oceania regions till the crisis continues.
